Recent Events

  • Panel and Activity with Girl Scouts
    • In early November we did a career panel and STEM activity with a Junior Girl Scout troop out of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District to help the girls earn the “STEM Career Exploration” Badge. Thank you to those who volunteered to help with this event!

Upcoming Events

  • Holiday Dinner
    • Save the date! Based on the poll results our annual holiday dinner will be on Monday, January 12th.  More details coming soon.

Other Business

  • We would like to plan to host a PDH seminar in the winter months.Our Professional Development Chair has some leads, more details to come once available. We are also open to suggestion and will likely be looking for a meeting space. If you have a presentation you’d like to give or have a space that can be used, please reach out.
  • The SU SWE Section is seeking mentors. Please email them at swe@syr.edu for more details and to volunteer.
  • Scholarship Program
    • Applications were updated, posted online, and distributed to area contacts in early November. 
    • General sponsorship information will be going out by early January,
      • Information on the newly defined “Hosting Sponsor” level will be going out sooner. 
    • We plan to hold our 36th Annual Scholarship Reception on May 4th.

Recent Events

  • We have held no events since the September meeting.

Upcoming Events

  • November General Body Meeting
    • Tuesday, November 18th, 6:30pm via Google meets
    • Agenda to include the 2026 Scholarship Program
  • Panel and Activity with Girl Scouts
    • In early November we will be doing a career panel and STEM activity with a Junior Girl Scout troop out of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District to help the girls earn the “STEM Career Exploration” Badge. Thank you to those who have volunteered to help with this event!
  • Holiday Dinner
    • We will once again have our Holiday Dinner in January. A poll will go out in early November to help pick the date. We are considering holding the event at Coppertop Tavern in Camillus again but are open to suggestions.

  • We are still seeking suggestions for PDH seminars. We would like to plan to host one in the winter months. 
  • The SU SWE Section is seeking mentors. Please email them at swe@syr.edu for more details and to volunteer.
  • We have begun discussing the 2026 Scholarship Program and a tentative timeline has been established. Applications and Sponsorship information will be going out by early January and we plan to hold the Reception on May 4th. We will be defining the requirements for a venue and officially developing a “Hosting Sponsor” sponsorship level during the November General Body Meeting.

      • Kara DiNatale, who has held this role since the 2019 Scholarship Program, would like to step down. She is willing to serve as the Coordinator while closely mentoring her replacement (an Apprentice) or to be a resource if someone is interested in completely taking on the task without a training year.

  • Apple Picking
    • SWE members, family, and friends met at Fruit Valley Orchards in Oswego, NY on 9/27 for our annual apple picking outing. Thank you everyone who came!

Upcoming Events

  • October General Body Meeting
    • Tuesday, October 21st, 6:30pm via Google meets
    • Agenda to include final details for Girl Scout event, 
  • Panel and Activity with Girl Scouts
    • We will be doing a career panel and STEM activity with a Junior Girl Scout troop out of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District to help the girls earn the “STEM Career Exploration” Badge. We are seeking volunteers for this event. 
    • Tentatively Scheduled for Thursday, November 6th, 6:30pm-8pm

Upcoming Events

  • September General Body Meeting- details to come
  • Once schools are back in swing…
    • We are looking to work with a Junior Girl Scout troop out of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District to help the girls earn the “STEM Career Exploration” Badge. We will be seeking volunteers to participate on a high level career path panel. We previously discussed doing this this spring but it was agreed with the troop to postpone until fall.
    • Fall Career Fair/Conference Prep with SU SWE! We anticipate needing volunteers for an evening event with resume review and interview prep stations.
  • Apple picking! We would like to kick off FY26 with our annual apple picking outing. This year we would like to change things up and are considering the following orchards: Fruit Valley Orchard in Oswego, Abbott Farms in Baldwinsville, and Navarino Orchard in Navarino. Dates to be considered are the weekends of 9/20 and 9/27. A survey will go out via email.
