FY 21 Events
31st Annual Scholarship Reception
On May 17th we recognized 4 young women from the Central New York region who are headed to college for STEM related majors in the coming fall. In addition to our members, we joined by representatives of several of our sponsors, the scholarship recipients, and the recipients families and teachers. The event was held at Jamesville Beach County Park and catered by Via Napoli Express. Though this was not a record breaking year in regards to sponsorship, due to the ongoing pandemic and financial crisis, we still received outstanding support from both long-term and new sponsors- each recipient received $2400. It was a lovely evening, we were excited to be able to celebrate in person after a year full of virtual events, and we look forward to continuing the tradition in 2022.
Mock Interviews with SU SWE
In early May professional level SWE members from the Greater Syracuse section and beyond held mock interviews and a discussion on interview preparation with students from the SU SWE section.
Jewelry Demonstration
In February SWE members and friends were treated to a virtual demonstration of how a stone is set and how a ring is resized. Technical aspects, such as materials and methods used, were discussed throughout. A recording of this demonstration can be found here.
Adrienne Peltz is a former Greater Syracuse SWE scholarship recipient and her husband, Aric, is a trained jeweler. Together they have a business creating beautiful jewelry and educating people about the materials and methods used in the process. More about them and their company, Forge Gone Conclusions, can be found on their website.
Holiday SWEaters, SWEets, and Sips
In December Great Syracuse SWE members and friends gathered virtually to enjoy some festive cheer.

On October 22nd several Greater Syracuse SWE members volunteered their time to participate virtually in a career panel for the Syracuse University SWE section. Topics discussed included career paths, relocating for jobs, and how the pandemic has impacted the panelists' workplaces and careers.
