Nominating Committee-Volunteers Needed

1. Nominating committee is responsible for establishing and distributing the slate of officer candidates for the upcoming fiscal year and administering the election of said officers.
   1. Volunteers must be SWE members.
   2. Estimated time commitment is 2-3 hours total.

Important Updates Regarding Previously Planned Events

1. WE Local Buffalo- CANCELLED
2. Scholarship 
   1. Application deadline extended to April 30th
      1. Will work with applicants to accommodate challenges obtaining application materials due to remote learning
   2. Sponsorship deadline extended to June 1st
   3. Scholarship Reception postponed, date TBD 
   4. Volunteers needed to review applications now though mid-May
      1. Volunteers must be SWE members
      2. Estimated time commitment is 20 minutes per application, number of applications assigned varies by reviewer preference
      3. Email syracuseswe.scholarship@gmail.com if interested

Future Event Ideas
We will not be having any in-person events until the COVID-19 situation has resolved. The below list is ideas for both before and after that time, feedback and new suggestions appreciated!

1. Virtual Event
   1. Coffee Break, Networking Lunch, Happy Hour, etc
2. Career Prep with collegiate SWE members
3. ConMed tour (in Utica)

November: Friendsgiving with a cookie exchange
Thursday, 11/14, 6pm, Bridget’s House in Clay (note, she has a cat and a dog)

• SWE to provide catered dinner, water, and soft drinks (wine is BYO)
• Cookie exchange for dessert.  Attendees encouraged to bring:
  • Cookies (~2 dozen) 
  • At least 12 copies of the recipe, and
  • A container to take home exchanged cookies
• $5 for SWE members, $10 for non-members
• ​RSVP and PayPal here

December: Holiday Dinner

• Wednesday, December 11th
• 5:30 Cocktail half hour, 6pm dinner
  • Plan to join with other local engineering societies for the cocktail portion. As in the past, dinner will be SWE only
• Location TBD but will be in Syracuse
  • Considering the Press Room Pub
• Prices TBD

Future Event Ideas
We could use some help planning these upcoming events. Please let us know if you are interested and could help coordinate upcoming events.

• PDH Seminar
  • We have tentative topic and presenter
  • Possible locations - reaching out to some local companies that could possibly host once we confirm presenter availability (Suggested: IPD, Beardsley, OBG, Carrier)
• Technical Tour of a Canal Lock
  • We have a contact that suggested winter as the best months for an engineering tour of how it works
  • all other details are TBD
• Outreach with Girl Scouts
  • Looking into maybe doing a 1-day event for a STEM badge

Scholarship Program

• Nikki Carfi is the Committee Chair
• This is our 30th Year!
  • Inviting past winners and founding members
    • Need contact info! If you know a past recipients please have them get in touch with us.
• Looking for reception venue, open to suggestions
  • Ideally would be large enough for 100+ attendees
• Any help on the committee would be appreciated to make this year great!
