30th Annual Scholarship Program
Due to Covid-19 the 2020 scholarship reception was held as a virtual event to celebrate 30th year of the program and recognize our talented recipients. The reception was conducted on June 22nd via Zoom and was attended by Greater Syracuse SWE members, representatives of our sponsors, and the recipients, along with their families and teachers. We recognized 5 talented young women from throughout the region who have chosen to pursue STEM careers. Though this was not a record breaking year in regards to sponsorship, due to the ongoing pandemic and financial crisis, we still received outstanding support from both long-term and new sponsors- each recipient received $3000. It was a lovely evening, we appreciated everyone's flexibility in regards to scheduling and format, and we look forward to continuing the tradition (hopefully in person) in 2021.

We are pleased to share that this year's keynote speaker was Rebecca Thyne. Rebecca is a Charter member of the Greater Syracuse SWE Section. She served as President, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, Membership Chair, and Scholarship Chair during her tenure as a Syracuse SWE member. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University and is currently a Staff Reliability Engineer for Lockheed Martin, Missiles & Fire Control in Arlington, Texas. She has worked in Reliability for 20 + years. Rebecca grew up and lived in Syracuse until moving to Texas almost 4 years ago with her husband. Her daughter is an engineer and past Syracuse SWE Scholarship recipient now working in Baltimore and her son is also in science, currently pursuing his PhD in San Antonio, TX.
