28th Annual Scholarship Program
On May 21st we held our 28th annual scholarship reception. The event was attended by SWE members, the scholarship recipients, their families and teachers, and representatives of our many sponsors. Held at Lockheed Martin's Liverpool facility, attendees enjoyed food, company, a brief overview of the scholarship program's history, and an inspiring talk by the Keynote Speaker, Dean Teresa Dahlberg. It was a lovely evening and we look forward to continuing the tradition.
Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg is the dean of Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
Dean Dahlberg is an accomplished expert in novel approaches to education and broadening participation, with a focus on preparing globally minded science and engineering innovators and leaders.
She leads the College of Engineering and Computer Science’s ambitious Transforming Our Future plan which aims to amplify the College’s distinctions to become a leading model for contemporary engineering and computer science education. A key area of the plan addresses the need to increase the presence of persons historically underrepresented in engineering and computer science disciplines.
Dean Dahlberg once served as dean of the School of Engineering and chief academic officer at Cooper Union. She also served as associate dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at UNC Charlotte. While there, she cofounded the STARS Computer Corps, a National Science Foundation alliance for broadening participation in computing. Prior to that she spent 10 years as an engineer for IBM.
Dean Dahlberg has a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and a masters and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from North Carolina State University.
